Joanne Koeslag: Assorted Home Décor Items
Joanne and her husband, Herman, moved to the Hanover area 19 years ago. Joanne’s home town was Oakville where she met and married Herman and they raised their 3 children. Wanting to escape city life they moved to a hobby farm in Campbellville in 1979. But soon the city was getting closer. So they looked north toward the Durham area (Herman’s Canadian home town when he and his family came from Holland in 1948). They settled in a place in the country southeast of Hanover.
As they decorated and landscaped their property, they began using barnboard, cedar and grapevine – materials which were readily available. They were blessed with an abundance of birds of every kind so Herman began making lots of bird houses and feeders and bat houses to accommodate their flying friends. They also had a large pond on their property so they started raising goldfish.
Joanne came up with the idea of making barnboard frames for her old Lang calendars. Herman thought it was a crazy idea until he saw the first one – now he loves making them. He makes most standard sizes as well as custom frames.
This is Joanne’s 6th season at the market and currently she has a variety of barnboard frames, bird & bat houses, and bird feeders. She also brings goldfish and plants for ponds as well as goldfish bowl kits for the kids. She has an assortment of home decor items and later in the summer she has Christmas novelties too.
